MOTD: Friday Night Glam!

Hey guys!  I mentioned in a previous blog post that I have been in a huge makeup rut, only wanting to use the SAME things over and over and over again.  It's kind of a Catch 22 - the whole point of trying new makeup is to find what works and what you like the best, but when you have a true makeup addiction (lol) you're continuing to always be on the search for the latest and greatest, something even better than what you've found.  And, when you have accumulated the amount of makeup that I have, it simply isn't smart to only use the same things all of the time.  When you purchase makeup you need to use it, otherwise you need to stop buying.  Ugh.  So today I thought I would share with you a simple smokey-eye look that I did this past Friday night.  We didn't go anywhere fancy or anything, just a night out to dinner with David and family.

Since I apply my makeup in a very similar way each and every time I do a smokey-eye, it tends to look very similar no matter what eyeshadow or palette I use.  But, I forced myself to leave the Stila palette that I have grown so fond of sitting, and instead I used ol' faithful herself, the Makeup Geek Vegas Lights Palette.  Brace yourselves, I actually took a break from my The Rocket mascara and Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous foundation!  Of course I didn't go too wild, no need to go crazy here - some of my tried and trues stayed right in the mix.

Shirt:  Target
Necklace:  Kate Spade

Some things never change!  I still used my Anastasia Brow Wiz and Dip Brow Pomade, as well as my Marc Jacobs bronzer and Nars blush in Taj Mahal.

For foundation I decided to go ahead and try the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.  I have a deluxe size sample from Sephora.

You know me, I never get too fussy with lips.  I just slapped on some Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian.  I tend to always do a dramatic eye, so I keep everything else very minimal.

For this look:
Mirage on browbone
Desert Sands in the crease and lower lashline
Casino on the lid
Bada Bing on outer 3rd of my eyelid, in the crease to deepen, and on lower lashline
(Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma was used on tear duct, again, some things never change!!!)

I've always enjoyed Estee Lauder mascaras, and this Sumptuous Extreme was really nice.  Years ago I used to only use the basic Sumptuous Volume mascara, and it seems like that one worked better.  I have to say, I just really get better results from The Rocket.  You don't have to work so hard to get dramatic results with that one.

The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation felt lovely going on.  I have really oily skin so this might be better for me in the colder months.  I will probably save this sample to use then.  Also, if you really wanna see how a foundation is covering (and to see any and every flaw you might have in your skin) simply turn your face up to the sun and snap a photo.  A sure fire way to see every pore, pock mark, scar, line, wrinkle, and crinkle that you have!  It also just lets you really see how good or bad a foundation looks as well.

I love makeup so much it doesn't take much to please me, so I'm generally happy with most things when I use them.  I can definitely say all of the things I used today were great.  The MUG Vegas Lights palette was actually my favorite palette of 2014, and is always a standard go-to.  The Giorgio Armani foundation has a cult following for a reason, it really is a beautiful skin-like foundation.  I have to watch what I use and when I use it, so I think this will work best for me in the Winter.  It's funny, as I was getting ready and putting on this foundation that retails for $62 I was like....I just wanna use my Covergirl!  Haha, you never know what's going to be a homerun winner.

I posted my 'apology' video on Facebook the same day I wore this makeup look.  In case you missed it you can see it here, as it gives you a better view of the makeup look:

I think it's important to switch things up every now and then and to break those makeup ruts we sometimes find ourselves falling into.  You really can't justify buying new makeup if you are only using the same handful of products every single time you put your makeup on.  Makeup expires and goes bad just like everything else, so keep your products in constant rotation to get the most out of them!
